1956 Cleveland 5" FIELD COIL SPEAKER, rare - 8 ohm

$45.00

Lot #1. Listing is for one vintage field coil speaker made by Clevland. This was removed from a Conn organ that was made around 1960 and the other speakers were dated 1960. By the EIA code (433638) these had to be made in a year ending in "6" so assume it is 1956.

Approx. 5 3/8" in diameter. The cone on this is in pretty good shape with one tiny spot which may be a small tear or dent about 1/8" at most. There are no other apparent rips, tears, holes, or voice coil rubbing. I have a second one of these available and will give discount if you buy both. Voice coile measured approx. 6.5 ohms on my meter. I got approx. 3.1K ohms between the red and black field coil wires, approx. 5K between the yellow and black, and approx. 2.2K between the yellow and red.

I think these were working well while in the organ but forgot to take notes before dis-assembly so not positive. After removing the amp from organ noticed that the sound coming from the two field coil speakers was poor and very low volume. I assumed this was because the coils were no longer getting any power so I tried hooking up a 1.5 volt C battery. Sound quality improved and got louder. I then tried two C batteries and sound was even better. That is all the testing I did. I believe they are working correctly but sold as-is.

Send your zip code for ship cost- should be between $5.95 and $9.95 if you are in the continental USA (Nov. 2012).
