Vintage ODYSSEY 3000 Pong video game w/box- needs repair?

This vintage game is in great shape.

It powers up fine and everything looks good. The paddles work without any jitters and all the buttons appear to be working correctly. Only one minor problem- the ball just goes right through the paddles and the score does not progress. Not sure what is wrong and it's the first time I have ever seen this problem in a Pong system. If you know how to fix this you will have a great vintage pong system for cheap. If not you can use for parts- it's in great cosmetic shape. Box shows wear.
