Crown Macro Reference STEREO POWER AMPLIFIER - parts or repair

When I first got this it powered on and front panel lights all worked as expected. Amplification was extremely low. After a little while I heard something snap and some arcing so quickly powered off.

Had someone with some experience fixing amps take a look at it. He located a bad transistor in the power supply and replaced it, then slowly powered up with a Variac. After a couple minutes at full power the same transistor blew. No further attempt to repair was made.  He said both large power capacitors tested good as did all the audio transistors. Overall shows very little wear. Currently the cooling fan is not hooked up to the wires, otherwise complete and untampered with. No visbile damage.

Extremely heavy and well made here in the USA.
