For Sale: Extra nice set of legendary AR 2ax home stereo speakers made in 1972 in USA.
Speakers are all original and work perfectly. Sound quality is excellent and classic AR- no issues. The woofers are the alnico type and both were refoamed in May 2014. The cones have no rips, tears, holes, or voice coil rubbing. Tweeter domes are perfectly rounded. Mids are working perfectly and are protected by the metal grills on front. Masonite grill frames are in good shape with no breaks or bends. The original white grill fabric has done relatively well over the years with no real stains and only a small hole evident. Most people change the grill fabric on these because usually they have stains but I think these look pretty good as they are.
Cabinet veneer condition is probably the nicest I have come across on vintage AR speakers. Will look even better if waxed or treated with tung oil or something similar. There are some minor scratches, a few dings, and a very small/thin section of veneer is missing on the back edge of one cab- see last photo for details of this. As usual the high and midrange level pots on these were not working correctly- if you played around with them you could find the "sweet spot" and get them working. Have heard you can soak them in vinegar or otherwise clean up and get them working again but I just bypassed them with a piece of removable thick copper wire.
