For Sale: Tested and working classic/rare audiophile quality home stereo tower speakers.
These work 100% and have excellent sound quality even when used without the built in subwoofers being powered on. Plug them in and the sound is amazing, some of the best sounding speakers I have come across in a while although it's really not fair to compare them to regular speakers without powered subs.
Mirror image design with the subs pointing outwards. Level control for subs on rear bottom, can get the signal from RCA jack line input or through the speaker wires. Just a little minor cosmetic wear- these were not abused or transported carelessly. Boston designed these with removable tops so you could easily roll the grill fabric socks down to access the drivers if needed. For some reason they included poor fitting shiny black plastic lids for the tops- these plastic pieces show a little wear. The top piece is a lighter colored wood but I think you would be better off just painting this piece black to match the speakers and toss the shiny plastic tops... Both 75 watt subwoofer amp units and level controls work correctly and so do the red LED light power indicators.
All drivers are original and in great condition. The most critically acclaimed component of this speaker set are the Lynnfield tweeters which can sell for in the $70 range individually IF you can find them. They have superior acoustic properties, high power handling, and heat sinks on the back (at least going by photos seen on the web). The woofer cones have no rips, tears, holes, or voice coil rubbing.

"After listening to numerous makes and models of speakers(over several months) I found myself purchasing a pair of the VR960's in April of '99.
My situation was that I required a speaker system which would perform equally well with video and musical reproduction.
The VR960 is actually a two way speaker with a built in powered subwoofer. The subwoofer is powered by a 75 watt amp mounted into the bottom of each speaker box. The subwoofer itself (8") is mounted to fire out of the side of the enclosure. These speakers are each shipped as a dedicated left or a dedicated right speaker.
There is a five way speaker connector mounted toward the bottom on the rear of the enclosure. The only controls to be found on these speakers is for the subwoofer volume. Adjusting this will only affect the subwoofer and causes no noticeable coloration to the midrange or high end output of the system. There is also a LFE input for use with a 5.1 or 6.1 surround sound mode.
I have my speakers placed approximately 8 feet apart and 1 foot in front of the rear wall in a room measuring 15 by 30 feet. The imaging of these speakers is by far better than any speakers that I have heard in this price range. The sound is flat and without any harshness. Truly this is a very warm and natural speaker.
Currently I am powering these speakers with an Onkyo integrated amp rated at 65 watts/p/c. Musical reproduction at high levels has not been a problem at all due to not having to power the bass levels by the amp. Yet the speakers still sound equally well at a low volume as well."
