For Sale: Tested and working classic Pioneer turntable/record player. Made in Japan 1970's.

Includes a Shure M91ED phono cartridge with brand new (less than 5 minutes testing) stylus/needle. Excellent sound quality with no skipping or hum, crisp highs, good bass. The speed sounds correct. This is fully manual turntable which means to play an album you move the tonearm over to the first track, move power switch from Off to Down, the tonearm slowly lowers, and the record begins to play. At the end of the album you have to move the switch to On or Off and the tonearm will raise, then you manually move the tonearm back to the holder.

Table appears all original except for belt and maybe the Shure cart. The wood veneer base is in very very nice shape with no apparent wear. The dust cover shows very little wear and has no apparent chips or cracks. The metal belt cover has some minor wear on it and the metal table body shows some light cosmetic wear.  There is some residue from the original rubber belt on the heavy cast metal body and the heavy platter, can be cleaned off with correct cleaner but it's not necessary.  Lastly the small rubber piece between the counterweight and tonearm has dried up somewhat and I flipped it upside down so the counterweight would hang straight- it works fine but is not that tight. It's just a piece of rubber and would not be difficult to replace but again not needed.  The two piece counterweight is a little different to calibrate and adjust than other tables I have owned but once you have the weight dialed in (1.5 grams for the M91ED cart) it of course stays set.

This table uses a little plastic disc called a Thrust Bearing which goes under the platter spindle. It's easily accessed from the bottom. I checked the thrust bearing on this table and it is in poor shape but does not seem to affect operation. It's a common issue with these and you can pick up new ones on ebay for around $10. Basically just a disc about the size of a dime with small divot in center. I added lubrication before I reassembled. Ideally you will want to replace but doesn't seem necessary at this point.

Specs:

The Pioneer PL-41 is a two speed model, 33 1/3 and 45 rpm.  Two push-buttons provided on the belt cover control selection of speeds. Pressing the desired speed push-button will automatically set the turntable for operation of the speed marked on the push-button.

The PL-41 is a belt drive system in which the motor drives the turntable platter through a belt. Therefore, changing turntable speeds must be done only when the turntable platter is rotating.
