A new Lithium Ion battery was purchased 4/25/25. Battery cost about $9.50 shipped and you can get ones with double or triple capacity that are also inexpensive.
The best thing about this camera is the Carl Zeiss lens and 40x optical zoom- it's pretty amazing. For extreme zoom shots you will want to use a tripod or rest the camera on something so there is no shaking. The video screen is a touchscreen and the camera is PACKED with high end features, too much to list here but the manual and specs are available online. Besides the new battery this includes the original Sony AC adapter/battery charger, original composite video cable, original USB transfer cable, and a 2GB Sony Memory Stick card. You can use either the hard drive or the memory stick to record video and photos, and you can choose which one records which.
The hard drive is a 40GB 1.8" drive and if you ever want to upgrade you can get a 80GB or 120GB one for cheap online and they are not hard to replace as YouTube videos will show. But might be a better option to get a solid state Memory Stick Duo Pro adapter and use inexpensive TF memory cards. The 40GB drive will record up to 27 hours of video or about a billion photos :)
Audio recording uses Dolby and it's excellent quality.
