For Sale: This is new/old stock made in 1997. The packaging has never been opened.
As happens often with players like this that come with headphones that have the removable foam earpieces the foam has deteriorated and become crumbly. The "dust" from the foam can be seen inside the packaging, check photos carefully. Replacement earpads can be purchased on ebay for cheap and the player should clean up no problem with a little surface cleaner (Windex, iso. alcohol, etc) and a little patience.

Packaging states "As seen in hit video games by Sega". Can't find much info about this online. Some folks are claiming it's a promotional giveaway item, some say it was supposed to be introduced with a video game that never got released. I seem to recall some video games where Sonic uses a walkman but can't remember which. Regardless it's a pretty uncommon and collectible item. If I were a cassette player collector or a Sega or a Sonic collector I'd probably use a razor knife to cut a slit along the seam of the package, remove the player and headphones, clean it up carefully, replace or remove the remnants of the foam covers, put everything back in the package, and seal it back up.
Due to being 28 years old not sure if it will play cassettes without some TLC although I've come across Sony Walkman players from the mid 1980's that still work OK. So please be aware- you may need to replace internal rubber belts or do some oiling or other repair if you plan on using this regularly.
