Philips DVD-963SA - SACD CD DVD PLAYER - single disc, works, shows wear

$60.00

For Sale: Tested and working- read below for details.

When found the front panel with the controls felt lose, taking the cover off revealed almost all the plastic clip parts that hold the front on had shattered into about a hundred pieces. The grey plastic parts have been cleaned out.

There are scratches on the front and the little lens covers for "Sound Mode" and "Audio Direct" are missing.

I put a couple pieces of very thin but strong tape on the inside top and a strip along the bottom and the front now stays firmly in place.

The deck has been working reliably and if you put a CD in it will "upsample" it according to the display. The blue Upsampling LED light comes on. Sound quality is quite good. No skipping or glitches.

When I first got it I tested with about 6 audio CDs and it played them all no problems. When I got home and retested it wasn't reading anymore so I took the top cover off and gently cleaned the lens. With the top off when I pushed play I noticed that the lens was traveling right past the edge of the disc, raising and lowering trying to detect it. But of course it could not so it failed. I gently moved the lens mechanism down the track, gently lifted the entire assembly up a bit, and retried.  And it started working correctly again. Played about 20 CDs over the course of a week or two no issues.

Later I moved the CD player downstairs. When I eventually hooked everything up again the problem came back so I repeated my fix- it's all working fine again.

Not sure what's going on with it. Priced accordingly. Will retest before confirming sale.
