For Sale: A rare pair of early Linn Kan Mk 1 speakers in excellent working condition. Distinctive full range and very pleasant sound. Based on the Rogers LS3/5A design.
With original KEF SP1003 woofers and Scanspeak D 2008 dome tweeters. Cabinets most likely are teak veneer. All four drivers are working correctly. No distortion. Woofers have no rips, holes, tears, or voice coil rubbing- rubber surrounds probably original and should have lots of life left in them. Tweeter domes are perfectly rounded.
The grills may or may not be original. probably they are original but it's hard to tell. There are no labels or tags other than the inspection sticker and serial number tags which are 10203 and 10204. These appear to be very early versions so probably made in 1979 or 1980, they are chipboard construction so not the earliest Kan's which were made of plywood but only 100 or so of those were made.
These have some wear to the cabs if you look closely, not bad at all. As far as I can tell the previous owner of these "recaulked" them to make them completely airtight and wasn't concerned about doing a professional job. No permanent issues were caused except maybe to the paper label on the back of the tweeter but there is excess caulk on the back of the driver frames as you can see in photos. There is a minuscule amount of caulk on the front of the woofers mostly on dust caps, probably could be removed if you are careful. The caulk has mostly dried up although not totally powdery or chalky at this point, and it's possible to remove and clean up without any residue as far as I can tell, if you want to take the time. There is a bunch of dark blue acoustic insulation inside the cabinets which is not shown in the photos.
