For Sale:  Model railroad train loco and tender.

Tested and running vintage American Flyer locomotive and tender in pretty good shape. Made in USA probably late 1950's or 1960's.

Motor runs reliably and strong in forward.  I have also had it running fine in reverse.  When I first got this the motor did not turn when voltage was applied.  I looked online and found the most likely cause was dirty contacts on the "reverse drum" mechanism so I took the top of the engine and tried to clean the contacts- they were quite dirty.  The motor now runs strong but I have found when I turn the switch lever on top to change to neutral or reverse the motor usually stops working.  As long as you don't change the switch it should stay working in forward no problems.  If you move the switch lever on top of the locomotive you may have to take the top off and make adjustments to the reverse drum.   The issue seems to be related to the electromagnet that moves the drum forward- it works and moves the drum but does not click back down afterwards some of the time.  Might be a loose spring or something like that.  I took a video of the train running and can send you a link if you want.

Smoke feature has not been tested, not sure if smoke works or not.   Overall not a lot of wear.  Links work correctly, axles and wheels all appear to be in good shape.  Runs well on track.

Send your zip code for ship cost - should be between $6.99 and $11.99 if you are in the continental USA (listed Jan. 2014).
